Design
Framework

Five interconnected principles work as a lens for understanding context, making design choices, and shaping our collective learning.

Depending on the engagement, we may move among them repeatedly by listening, questioning, designing, testing, reflecting, and adapting.

Intention

01

We work together to make sense of the current context, surface assumptions, and clarify possibilities to define our purpose. Rather than simply defaulting to familiar solutions or best practices, we pause to make deliberate design choices that center your people and align with your organizational values.

Belonging

02

We intentionally seek out multiple perspectives, paying particular attention to voices that may be missing or less easily heard. Design choices center both access and participation while fostering authentic connection and a sense that each person matters to, and has a place within, the larger community.

Emergence

03

We create enough structure to provide direction without determining the outcome, allowing room for possibilities we could not see at the outset to emerge. We build feedback, reflection, and sense-making into the process to allow new information, needs, and insights to shape the work as it unfolds.

Sustainability

04

We see the people closest to the work as essential contributors to its design, not simply recipients of its outcomes. We create meaningful opportunities for people to add value by sharing knowledge, influencing decisions, experimenting, and taking ownership, building both individual agency and collective capacity.

Contribution

05

We consider from the beginning what will allow the work to continue, adapt, and evolve over time. Knowledge, ownership, and capacity are intentionally distributed so that progress becomes embedded in the organization rather than dependent on a single person, initiative, or moment in time.
